Default Don't trust mini pill (breastfeeding)

I'm currently bf my 6 week old and has just got the mini pill. I've taken 3 days and I'm now thinking that I won't continue. Three reasons.....

I don't trust it to be effective when it doesn't stop you ovulating, so would probably make DH wear a condom. We have 2 kids and do not want anymore.

There seems to be some evidence of it interfering with milk supply or taste ie bubs going off bf or getting unsettled. I've worked really hard to est bf this time I would hate it to end prematurely now

Also hearing of people spot bleeding whilst on it which I would hate

Anyone have negative/positive experiences with the mini pill and bf?

I had a good experience on the mini pill. Milk wasn't affected at all. As long as you follow your doctors advice and take the pill within the same 3 hour window each day you should be fine. If I forgot (I did a couple of times) I'd just use frangers for a couple of weeks.

Could you chat to your doctor about another form of contraception? IuD? Could hubby get the snip?

I know nothing about the mini pill, but did have the implanon implant when i was about 18 and had one month which was great, then got what seemed like a period and then spotting for a further 2 months!! Couldn't handle it and had it taken out. It's quite common I hear, so I suppose if spotting is a big concern for OP that might not be an option either...

That's a bugger. I had mine put in within days of childbirth. Yet to have a period return and no problems so far

See that's what I hoped for! My hairdresser had it and never got her period while it was in... Instead I had 2 months of it arghh!

So it is safe for breast feeding?

I had no ill effects from mini pill and bfing. Also no pregnancy.

My issue with the mini pill is there's such a small window to take it that with me there is a good chance of human error causing it to not work.

So I've been forgetting to take it....

Definitely not having implanon - bad experience! Crazy moods and spotting. Don't even know if its ok when bf.

I probably won't bf past 6 months so maybe I just need to suck it up until then and go back on combined pill until DH gets a vasectomy

Also concerned ill forget to take it. It's also more susceptible to not working through illness
