I can't stand sappy love story movies - The Notebook was my worst nightmare.

I do LOVE The Holiday and My Best Friend's Wedding though

And I love the stories that aren't the romantic love stories but are stories of unexpected friendships, like in the Holiday when Kate Winslett's character befriends the old man and helps him get to accept his award... and she gets to learn so much about his amazing life and Old Hollywood. And most importantly he teaches her to be the leading lady in her life.

I haven't read all the pages, and it's not a love movie, but the story of the old couple at the beginning of Up ranks right up there with my favourite love stories
