    Default Short luteal phase

    Hi

My Dh and I has started trying for our 2nd baby. We already have a beautiful Ds who is almost 1. This is our first cycle ttc and I ovulated late last week so now just waiting...

I have been charting and discovered my luteal phase is only 8 days long. wondering if anyone else out there has this problem and if there's anything i can do to make it longer. I went to a naturopath last time for help but can't afford to this this time. Not even sure that it helped much tbh and it still took 7 months to concieve.

Also is there any point speaking to my doctor?? Don't want to go there and get the brush off.

    Thanks in advance.

    Default Short luteal phase

    Hi!

I have a naturally short luteal phase too - it can be as short as 6 days. I've used Vitex and Evening Primrose Oil, and Vitamin B, and they seemed to help by a day or two, but what really worked was progesterone supplements from my FS (once he agreed that my lp was too short). Took it right out to 14 days and I am now 5 weeks pg. (there was some Clomid and IVF in there too, but this cycle was just progesterone).

Definitely get it checked. You might find that your gp has never heard of luteal phase defect, so go prepared.

And I'd like to ask: have you recently come off BCP? I have a personal hypothesis that the progesterone in them causes lp to decrease over time.

I'm in the same boat. 3 cycles in and realised i have an 8 day Lp. Feel like i have no hope without being able to lengthen it but don't want to be dismissed by my Dr because we haven't been 'trying long enough'.

Started on b6 last month. No impact. May try find some vitex too this month.

Im going to see my Dr regardless and just say we've been trying for 6 mts. I just want some basic tests to start at least. Not sure if a gp will help or just want to refer you to a fertility specialist but make you wait 12mts. Im just so upset figuring this all out and having it confirmed by af today.

Let me know if you find something that helps.

    Default Short luteal phase

I used vitex and it lengthened my luetal phase by 3 days within two cycles and fell pregnant after that. I also took blackmores "conceive well".

Thanks for all your replys ladies. I've been off bcp for about 3.5 yrs now. I was on it for about 9 years and i do believe it to be the root of my problems.

The Naturopath had me on chaste tree before I had my Ds so I'll give it a go again this time. It didn't seem to lengthen my cycle last time but might have helped my progesterone?? I'm also taking concieve well gold.

Nat11 do you not need a referral from your GP to see a specialist Ob?

I went and saw my dr last week and she's started the ball rolling with blood tests, ultrasounds etc.

You need a referral to see any specialist. My GP has offered a referral to a fertility ob. 2 month wait list so I've phoned up and made an appointment regardless and will get the referral letter at my next GP visit. Figured i'm better off having it as a back up for 2 months time. Not sure what the GP will do after my test results come in but I suspect not much, hence the Ob referral.

She didn't seem to think/ say anything about the short luteal phase, but may have just wanted to get all the tests done before jumping to any conclusions.

It took us ages to get UTD and I only realised quite late on that it was a LP defect, only 9 days. The first month I took B vitamins to lengthen my LP, I got my BFP. I took a B complex (you should take B12 with B6 as it helps your body absorb the B6) I hope it helps - and expect bright yellow pee - comes with the B vits!

Glad to hear you're getting somewhere with you're doctor HeyMissA. Fingers crossed you get a BFP before you even see the fertility ob.

I've started taking Vitex this cycle and am still taking the conceive well gold which has the b vitamins in it. fingers crossed...

    Default Short luteal phase

I had a short luteal phase when I was TTC DD1. I saw an acupuncturist and she corrected it within 3 cycles :-)
