    Default Is rental assistance mandatory?

Hi Ladies, I have a general question as it seems no one knows...lol. I am a single mum, work fulltime and just moved to a new place....I had in the past encounters with CL that I thought I just had about enough and thought do I HAVE to take the rental assistance? Is this mandatory or can you ''opt'' out of it?? Some would say are you crazy??? I did some budgets and weight up my sanity / stress compare to getting a few bucks more. Does any of you know if this is possible ??? or will this then raise unnecessary flags for them of OMG no you have to take the money or something is wrong with you.......any help I would really appreciate.....thank you heaps...

Just don't claim it. If you deal with centrelink and advise you're renting they'll send out a rent assistance application form. Just don't return it.

ETA: May I ask what stress you mean? Claiming rent assistance is pretty easy. Just fill in a form, have agent/landlord sign it and return. It is your decision in the end just wondering :-)

That's it?? just don't bring in the rental contract, really?? so if not returned in time frame will a letter come out saying do it or we cancel?? that's it?? just cant believe its that easy....lol, sorry. What stress...well last move I had, my rental doc was lost, twice, and one time a change of income...and I advised over the phone...come tax time..it seemed the consultant did NOT update my information correctly...so I had to fight hard to have it rectified....so I am just over it to tell you the truth...and really I do NOT want to be depended on CL for the rest of my life.....if the budget allows it I want to do it by myself. call it proud...I just don't like to stress about that stuff anymore....lol

To not get RA just don't return the rent certificate. But the problems you stated seem to be with your primary payment (parenting payment /FTB) and not claiming RA won't have any affect

    For us it has been.

Centrelink can stuff around sometimes so I can understand that.

If you change your mind it's as simple as lodging a claim :-)

    *giggles* sorry ^__^

Also as everyone else said, centrelink will only ever look at the claims you have lodged and won't act upon anything that you haven't put in as paperwork so don't worry ^___^
