It is a subconscious thing; we want to tune out all other senses in order to have the required sense working to full capacity.

Everyone knows that turning down the stereo amplifies your finding skills....looking for a parking spot, turn that stereo down first!

Why do babies put everything in their mouth? Surely this is a design flaw as it's rather dangerous?

As far as I know (and I could be wrong as I studied it years ago)... you know how we all have our 5 senses? Well, when a bub is discovering, taste is used as part of that discovery; they want to not only feel an object or hear it when they shake it (the rattle) they also need to taste it to totally explore the object. like we adults touch and feel something new, babies taste it!
There's that explanation, and also the whole teething thing they just want something to gnaw on and rub against their sore and swollen gums.

I have a theoryas both my arms always hurt if I drink. I think its from holding tension in that area of your body.alcohol relaxes you therefore relaxes the muscles and they begin to hurt

My wisdom teeth hurt when I drink... My dentist says there can't be a link but there is! For me anyway.
