We will be getting a joint account after DP pays his existing car loan

DH and I have joint accounts and have had it this way since we got married. Makes life easier for us to pay bills, budget etc.

We've got separate accounts, just never bothered to get joint ones when we got married.

We could probably both give ball park estimates on what the other had and what was owed on mortgages (also separate as we both owned houses before we got married so one in each name still) but we don't really know exact amounts.

I think if our budget was tighter we would probably have joint account and pay more attention to spending but we're in a good position financially on similar incomes at the moment.

We have separate accounts. 2kids, married for 9+yrs and its never been a problem.
We do have complete access to each others accounts, I don't work so we need to be able to transfer money.
But to join accounts I think what for, it's a pain to go in, learn new numbers, change direct debits, call people and stuff.
If the system ain't broke, don't fix it I think.

Separate accounts apart from one joint account that i don't really use as the mortgage comes out of it and DP pays that. It's all 'our' money, just in different places. We sort of just divvy up bills- he pays mortgage, internet, car insurance, body corp fees, I pay gas, electric, rates, groceries and child care fees. Other bills just get paid by whoever opens them. If one person runs out of money the other person covers. He puts a set amount into savings, I put whatever I can into savings (not a lot!) It works for us. I like having 'my' money to play with. If it's in my account I don't feel bad for spending our money, if that makes sense. Like if i saw a gorgeous dress, if i had the $200 in my account to buy it, I would, but i wouldn't say 'hey babe I'm out of money give me $200 for a dress'.

We have a joint account and each have a separate account. I pay the rent and she puts the same amount into our joint account so all joint bills (electricity, phi, car/contents insurance) come out of that. Works for us :-)

Not strange OP! I'm surprised at how many people have separate accounts. We have joint accounts

We have joint accounts and have done since about 12 months after we meet. The only separate account I have is my business account.
