    Could be a case of CPD which true cases are quite rare, but could also be that bub was just in a funny position for his head to to descend into the pelvic cavity which is pretty common. No reason you can't try for a vbac next time and see what happens. Will try to find a diagram when I get of my mobile that has dimensions of the pelvic opening and then the diameter of the presenting part (bubs head) which it's in different positions (flexed, deflexed, brow etc) to explain better

    Default CS due to Pelvis opening not big enough - am I naive?

    [QUOTE=giggle berry;
    As for future births, I guess I will need to talk to my OB about choices if/when I fall pregnant again.

    In the meantime I'm going to try and ignore my know it all colleague. 😉[/QUOTE]

    Good luck . After having a very similar story to you with birth of DD1, I had the most amazing VBAC with DD2. Most likely you CAN do it and having gotten to fully dilated once, it's so much easier second time!

    I agree with PPs that it could be bubs was in a poor position. It is unlikely your pelvis is too small as this is just so rare but not impossible. I also think it could be that you were 'timed out'. Most hospitals have a two hour time limit of pushing. This means that the staff get nervous about complications if you push longer than this and a surgical birth is preferred. It may be that you needed more time. Who knows? There are a million factors that could have come in to play. Without more information it is hard to say.
    I do think though that reflection, questioning and processing your birth is REALLY important. Getting your notes from the hospital and sitting down with an independent midwife to go through them can be really useful. If you decide to have another bub you want to be basing your decision making on facts not guess work (which is what a diagnosis of 'small pelvis' is).
    I hope you can process this birth and enjoy your baby.

    My mum was the same! Her doctor said back in the olden days both she and I would have died! After I was born she had the X-rays etc and her pelvis bones are not only small but thicker than normal too making it even smaller!
