Default Plane trip with 5mth & 18mth old alone. Crazy or doable?!

I'm thinking of flying from Melb to Gold Coast (2hrs) in July this year for week and staying at my Dad's unit up there.

DS1 will be 22mths and new bub will be approx 5mths. I know I have to pay for DS1 as you can only have 1 free infant to 1 adult, but luckily I have enough points to cover one way.

Has anyone done similar? I really want a trip to look forward to since DH left us. But I'm worried the trip will be so much of a nightmare that I won't enjoy the time away, dreading the trip home!!

I have flown dozens of times with my 2 children alone as young as 5 weeks and 26months. It's definitely not easy but its doable.

I am actually flying this Tuesday with my 2 alone again (4 who has just had an operation and 2 who is a pain yo fly with and me pregnant with a 3rd) so I can see its not going to be fun but we will manage.

Majority of the time I find many people want to help which is a blessing.

If you are concerned about getting on and off the aircraft qantas offer a service called meet and assist (Maas) where ground crew and cabin crew will help you to get on and off.

I'm pretty sure one adult can't travel with 2 kids under 2. That's the first thing you should check with the airline before making any plans

We just returned from OS and there were multiple parents with two children. Don't know how this could be consistently true as how would single parents ever travel??

Yep I'm pretty sure if they're under 2 they need an adult with them so they can be seat belted on an adults lap.

A friend of mine wasn't able to travel with her 13yr, 4yr and 18month old twins. She had her dp with het but he was on crutches as he was physically not capable of assisting with one of the twins. The 13yr old was not allowed to.
Very lucky travel insurance paid out for the hire car.
