Default Did acupuncture work for you?

I'm being induced on Monday and would dearly love to avoid it.

I will be having acupuncture tomorrow night and Saturday and am hoping that this will kick things off.

First baby, not dilated, high and posteria cervix. Engaged, no braxton hicks but the occasional (very) non painful period feeling. ive been doing all the things ob suggested to start things with no success.

So did acupuncture to induce labour work for you? If so, how long after did you go into labour?

I had an accupuncture session booked with DD but she decided to come before the session.

You don't have to be induced if you don't want to, even if you're booked. Ask for alternatives such as regular monitoring. Is your cycle longer than 28 days? If so your due date may be out.

Lots of walking might help and also sitting on a fitness ball or chair with legs apart learning forward and resting on a stool.

    Best of luck!

I wonder why they didn't give you a sweep if you are engaged? Could you ask them for one?

For 1st bub I didn't start the acupuncture until I was a week overdue. I can't say it did work but I can't say it didn't as I did end up being induced but I only needed 1 application of cervidil to get things going and labour was quite natural and easy. For 2nd bub I had acupuncture on my due date and went into labour the next day. As well as the acupuncture the practitioner I went to also did a bit of a mini meditation with me and played a CD of birthing affirmations that lined up with the hypnobirthing techniques we use. For 3rd bub I'll be booking in for some acupuncture on my due date again.

Hi, ob attempted stretch and sweep twice, but you have to be dilated so it didn't work. I will be 40+10 so cant really delay, amniotic fluid level is ok (low levels is a sign of placenta breaking down), she wont be happy if it drops much further. I'm being monitored already, bubs seems happy.

Ive been doing lots of bouncing on the fit ball, lots of walking, taking raspberry leaf tablets and tea, evening primrose oil and burning clarry sage oil. Cant do any squats or jumping up and down as I have a ruined knee. And castor oil will be drunk Sunday first thing (want to avoid that too for obvious reasons).

My dates are right (ob has actually put me down as 3 days further back than my calculations) as my dh was in hospital recovering from surgery, so its impossible to be any further out.

I also tried reflexology and acupressure, which was lovely, but did nothing

Ob said they will do gel x2, then a stretch and sweep, see what happens over night then breaking waters, wait and see, then its the dreaded drip. Oh cr@p, I just realised I cant have a water birth if I have a drip! Bugg3r!

OP - I could have written your posts word for word.... The only difference being that I declined induction.

I had DS at 42 weeks, I tried everything you listed including 2 lots of castor oil (please don't do it......if I could go back I would slap myself). I had labour induction acupuncture by an acupuncturist who specialises in labour induction. At first the acupuncture was relaxing then all of a sudden I was having full on contractions. I had to have someone drive me home but the contractions died off after an hour. The lady made another appointment for me but she told me I wouldn't need it, that the acupuncture works for 48 hrs and I would have the baby within that time. My waters broke about 36hrs after treatment. DS was in my arms at 48hrs after the treatment.

I can't be sure it was the acupuncture but boy were the contractions on her table real! I have no doubt it helped, if even to relax me and take my mind off it

she also left some small needles in my feet, legs and shoulders - I feel these helped. I didn't take them out until after DS was born.

My advice is get some labour inducing acupuncture (hooked to a TENS machine) and then rest rest rest!
