It's an opinion piece by a person with an obvious stupid opinion.

    I think the line

"It is not often realised that these do not represent a wider spread of abuse. The same hardcore abusers are being reported again and again."

is very important, and disagree with the final statement

"Welfare is the economic underpinning of the regular abuse of children."

Abuse occurs in high income families as well - they just have the resources to hide it better.
Absolutely - there's plenty of private school children from two parent fsmilies who live with abuse as well...But their mansions have thicker walls and are on bigger blocks. How revolting to single out single mothers.

Being a single parent does not make one public property - for everyone else to have a say in how one should live their life and hold a microscope over their finances.

Obviously written by an ignorant, uninformed prat.

Default Opinion piece on single mothers/young mothers/mothers on welfare...

Ridiculous-sounds like something out of the 1950s.

Sounds a tad old school, doesn't he.

How arrogant to decide that ALL single mothers are abusive no hopes. Did he forget it takes two to tango? I noticed there was nothing directed at the bio fathers who choose to not stay and/or support.

    Articles like this are disgusting.

My mom was a single mom and did a great job she never received welfare, never went for child support, the kids were always allowed to visit dad. She put herself through university getting her masters degree all while raising 3 kids on her own and paying for everything herself. There are plenty out there like my mom so maybe they need to expose themselves to those mothers so they can get a grasp on that end of it.

How do single mothers expose themselves exactly though?

Do you just rock up to parliament and say, "HEY! I'M A SINGLE MUM AND I'M NOT A LOUSY EXCUSE FOR A MOTHER!" Because that makes you look a bit... odd.

Really, single parents shouldn't have to expose themselves to prove this fool wrong... instead, he should have just avoided making up crap from watching too many eps of Housos.

Sensationalism and hatred always sells, so the best thing single mums can do is raise their amazing children and teach this generation to have open minds.

It may be a slow process but education is always the key.

Dispel the ignorance one person at a time and life becomes lighter.

Spent from my dome. Excuse autocorrect

    *eyeroll*

I have plenty of single, sahm friends on welfare who're great women and raise their children in situations that makes me think they deserve medals.
Stupid is as stupid does, and stupid wrote that article.
