Default Help! Does having shingles affect doing a FET cycle?

    Hi all,

Im just waiting for my af due monday , then starting an HRT FET cycle, but today ive been diagnosed with Shingles- cant bl**dy believe it!!!!!

does anyone know if this means I won't be able to do my FET cycle?

my GP thought it would be fine and not affect it, shes put me on 7 days of anti-virals

will contact my clinic on Monday to find out by wondering if anyone knew to save me fretting all weekend?!?!?

    thanks!

Hi Wanttobe. Sorry to hear about the shingles. I haven't had them myself but they're supposedly very unpleasant. Shingles are stress related so I would think that is the only potential issue with your FET. Good luck with it, get well and get those stress levels down! Easier said than done I know.

I've never had shingles but my first ET was almost cancelled due to a uti. They didn't want ANY infection present.

Shingles can become extremely painful in bad cases and I'm not sure if the drugs used (not normal pain killers) are safe in pregnancy.

    Good luck.

I had shingles during an IUI cycle and was told it would only affect if I needed to start drugs to treat the shingles. I opted to not start treatment until after the cycle was over (got a BFP! Then later missed m/c ) and luckily for me didnt need the treatment for shingles (Mine was only a very mild case but still painful!!). Would be worth contacting your GP or FS. Good luck

Thanks to all of you for replying!!!!I totally agree Kheeki it is probably due to stress but I was also on immunosuppresants during my last cycle so maybe thats got something to do with it too- who knows ?!? I am on an anti-viral medication, but that will be finished by Friday, my day one is tomorrow (just got af but it was 1pm) and just taking normal panadol as its not too painful, just a bit uncomfortable......so im hoping that they still let me go ahead so much!!!! will ring them in the morning and get the verdict either way- yet another interesting ride on the rollercoaster of ivf!!!!!!!

hey ladies just a quick update, i spoke to clinic this morning and nurse immediately said- dont do this cycle! she said my body would be under enormous stress from the shingles and so not to add to it by starting the hormones, plus the stress in my body would probably affect the outcome anyway as apparently shingles can go on for a month. disappointed not to cycle but only another four weeks and i can start again hopefully grrrrrrrrr
