I wish I could find the link, but it is bookmarked on my home PC. There was also a study indicating that adults with overly unusual names had poorer employment prospects. I personally would not use a solicitor named Blubell!

That said, Malachai, Skye and Chase? They are not overly unusual names. Not to my taste, but it isn't my baby! I have always loved old-fashioned names.

I like Malakai (either spelling) and Taj from your boys list, then again I also like the names Micah and Kai (similar backgrounds).
From your girls list.... not so much but I know a Skyla who is lovely, fun yet considerate of others. Who and what you can relate names to affects your perception of them afterall.
As for changing spelling slightly I don't mind Malachi changed to Malakai because if my name was spelled "correctly" I'd have to tell everyone the j in my name says ya, so my mum changed the spelling to ia instead to make life easier. As it is my name still gets spelled incorrectly by many who just don't care to pay attention or listen. There will always be those to whom ch says ch for cheese rather than k and it doesn't matter how many times they are informed.
So spell it however you like (within reason) my cousin spelled her daughter's name correctly (well traditionally) Maedbh (I've probably spelled it incorrectly because I'm a lover of the adaption Maeve).

    Default Unique names!

I like to spell names the way they sound, so I'd go for malakai. My child's name isn't unusual but is uncommon. We went with a slightly different spelling because I think that's how it 'sounds'.

I really dislike traditional names spelt differently for the sake of it. Like Konnah or Jaykob (yes, I've seen both).

Malakai is nice. Worst name I've ever heard- Cinderella. Real name, just have to shake my head at anybody who would name their child that.
