For $130 I'd hope 'Brad Pitt' the waiter did my taxes as well!

AH... well that makes a bit more sense as a function room with (I imagine) a bar tab and food for 40-ish people isn't likely to be cheap.

I think it's probably just easier for them to say, "this much per person," no exceptions because otherwise everyone would be all, "Well I can't each much food, so..." or "Well I'll be leaving at 10 so.." blah blah.

They should have still told you what that $30 was for before requesting it though (and also tell you how much extra it would be).

Hmm ok well after all the bits and pieces are coming out of this story, I think $130 is reasonable and if someone asks for a $30 deposit it means that this is just the start (usually to hold a booking) and there is more to come.
I think it's a bit annoying that they didn't put a rough amount of what the total would be but that's about how much I would expect for a hens these days and there is no way I would expect a hens' night to just cost $30 in total. The one I went to on the weekend was $120 (we also had a topless waiter! Infact he only wore a tiny apron and a bowtie ). Also that didn't include all our alcohol costs, so I wouldn't be too miffed that you're paying for alcohol you're not drinking, because maybe there might not be much alcohol costs in the price anyway.

If you're too broke I would probably just pay the extra 30 and go to her house. Help her celebrate.

No bar tab and just a roped off area not an actual private function area.
I think I'm just frustrated as what it was originally described as ( therefore $30 worth) and what it actual is are two different things.
