    Default Is expressing necessary?

My bub is 3 weeks old and I haven't expressed or even thought about it until I read some baby books and they have suggested to do it to increase your supply for when baby cluster feeds.

Do I really need to start expressing?

Nope. I never did it. Never found time in the early days anyway as DS was feeding A LOT.

No you don't need to and that baby book sounds as though its written by someone without qualifications or knowledge about breastfeeding.

The cluster feeding will increase your supply. If you think about it, if you were living in a cave, you wouldn't be expressing, you'd just feed your baby whenever it wanted it and it would be all ok

I only express if I need to leave my son with someone else.

Babies are very efficient at feeding to keep up your supply.

I only expressed for bottles so I could get more sleep! I don't anymore now as DD sleeps through and expressing tells my already over supplying boobs to make more milk!

It's true that expressing does increase your supply, BUT you don't need to do it.
Expressing to increase is usually suggested if the woman has a low supply.
If your supply is good you shouldnt need to express at all unless you are leaving the baby in care.

I don't know about others but I find it a PITA to express so assuming you have good supply and no nipple issues, I wouldn't bother!

Yeah me too. My girlfriend did it to boost her supply as she was feeding twins.
I never did, my supply was just normal.
