Thats your opinion and thats fine.
My opinion is that people who assume I am a bad person all round because I have hidden my pets from real estates in order to have a roof over my familys head, are people I wouldnt want to associate with anyway Yay, we wouldnt want to be each others friends! High-5!!

    Default pets and renting

I was that nice landlord and let our tenants move in with there dog. Never again will I allow animals on my property. The back yard was totally trashed and dug up. Sure we kept the bond and the man hours we had to put into it to make it ok (we were moving back into the property) cost more than the money.

So if I am ever a landlord again, absolutely no pets ever.

I do think that the pet bond isnt enough. $100 doesnt cover alot of damage that pets can do. I think there needs to be the bond and then a signed contract saying the tenants will pay for the damage caused to be fixed professionally......it would make alot of pet owners more responsible.

By some Vicparks standards I'm morally on par with a serial killer so I wouldn't take her comments too seriously.

your landlord allows you to have a dog as long as it's outside and you still break the rules and have the dog inside....

no a pet bond does not assist at all. We had a rental and allowed dogs as long as they weren't inside. The tennants did have their dogs inside and we were left with damage to the back verandah, carpets and blinds were torn and it stunk to the extent we had to remove the carpet and replace the blinds. We got stuck with a big bill. We now don't allow pets in our rentals.

We had to pay $500 for pet bond plus sign that we will have the house pest treated and inspected at end of lease.

We had our cat when we moved in without telling the landlords. We did regime our dog when we moved interstate and sold our house as he was a big energetic dog who we wouldn't of been able to hide and I couldn't be sure he wouldn't do damage (scratches on outside doors etc).
We had been here two months, met our landlords a couple of times as they had to come collect some of their belongings that they had left here. DH and I chatted with the easily (they are a young couple who built the house and then split up). Once they had met us and seen we were good tenants we asked them if we could have our cat and they said no problem.
I think it's sad that more landlords don't allow pets. I can understand their reasoning completely BUT in my opinion if you are the type of tenant that will let animals be feral or won't fix damage then its likely to happen with or without Pets. Kids can do more damage than pets in my opinion.

spot on! Seems to be a lack of respect in this thread. Tennants need to remember, you are renting someone else's home, look after it and have some respect but always bare in mind.... it is not your property!
