I bought Emily black velcro trainers. She runs around, and absolutely trashes her shoes, so mary janes are not for her!

You can also get Asics (and New Balance, Nike,Adidas etc) in all black leather. New Balance also do an all white leather x-trainer.

We stock all these in our shops (and have done for 5+ years) and in terms of stock that gets brought back as faulty plus over all feedback from parents, we normally reccomend an Asics or New Balance X-trainer for kids school shoes

DS is starting prep this year too and I need to get him new shoes so I'm glad I saw this thread! His school only allows black leather shoes or runners with a white sole only as black marks their new gym floors O_O

Also - can anyone confirm the start date for this year, is it Thursday Jan 31st?

Depends what state/school. DS is at a private school in WA and he starts 4th Feb

His school outlines white sneakers for the Early Learning Centre students. I dont think i'd like him wearing proper school shoes this young!

We are in SE Melbourne ... I'm sure I remember the principal saying they start on a Thursday (because i thought it was strange to start at the end of the week) which would make it the 31st and preps have every Wednesday off during Feb.. Silly me for losing the papers!

We're in SE Melb too, maybe different schools start on different dates. It's definitely 30th for DS, just double checked.

My son has black nikes... He has always liked to play sports at recess and lunch so trainers were essential. It is sometimes hard to find black ones when they wear out, but I go to the Nike store and always manage to find them.
