    i had the same issue it was build up from years of use (and possibly the type of water in the area?) I watched the women on "how clean is your house" and got the soluntion ..

    it not fun .. lol

    use a pumice stone and scrub - its softer than the enamel .. but tougher than the buildup ..

    its sadly really good exercise too - but it works

    should add .. I'm pretty sure its got something to do with water supply - my friend gets the same build up in her toilet and she is a neat freak .. lol

    its not a stain .. its a build up .. minerals and stuff

    Thanks everyone, I'm trying the CLR now and if no luck will give the pumice stone a go!

    So straight CLR left for an hour and a scrub with the pumice has done it - thanks ladies!!
