My youngest starts kinder this year (we are in Tas), kinder is attached to the primary school, she'll be going 3 days a week, has to wear the uniform (will need black shoes & the summer dress costs $60 plus hat and socks etc) and her levies are $185 but we don't get the school kids bonus for her until she starts full time school the following year. Doesn't seem fair!

Kimberleygal if your son starts preschool this year and your in wa and you receive ftb a then you will get it, I was only contacted because I had to check his details a few of the other mums from his class were not contacted.
We don't get the ftb so we don't get the bonus. I checked with centrelink after I finally got through after 40mins... they also verified that pre-schoolers are not eligible. From year one only.

You didn't know you don't get FTB part A?

    Default School kids bonus

I just went to centreline AND preschoolers (prep children) ARE included. Anyone receiving ftb A is eligible to get the bonus.

We aren't eligible as we only get ftb B. But if we got ftb A then we would be able to claim it on our child who starts prep this year (5 in may)

This info straight from centreline and confirmed by 2 people in the office.

I didn't ring centrelink to enquire as to whether I get the ftb part A, I rang to verify whether you needed to receive it to be eligible for the payment. I was aware I wasn't being paid that benefit.

2 people have posted the chart previously on this thread that says clearly that Kindergarten children DO NOT get the payment, from YEAR 1 only. So for those who think they will be receiving for their children that are not in year 1 are not entitled to the payment and shouldn't be receiving it according to that fact sheet and was also verified by the customer service officer when I rang. So if you think you are going to get the payment something is wrong somewhere.

I know, you're right, technically it's not, but they are turning 5 and most kids are ready to start - I don't think i've met anyone who skipped kindergarten and send their kids straight to full time prep. Just frustrating really as it is heavily promoted and there are costs associated with it, even if it if wasn't the full primary amount but worked out around the number of days the child attends. Ah well, completely off topic, sorry!!
