Hmmm. Don't know? I thought it was odd we got it for her as she wasn't technically in school but attended pre prep at a school (doubt that makes a difference though).

Also doubt it makes a difference but we also have a teen in high school....

Surely its as simple as : its for kids who attend school from 1-12 as well as the year before grade 1 (whatever it's called depending on state)

Would be interesting to find out what centrelink says. My youngest is the same age. He'll be starting kindy this year (in QLD, prep is next year) and I don't believe we're eligible for him. So if you can post again after you've spoken to centrelink that would be helpful TIA :-)

My understanding is they have to already turned 4, at least in NSW. So if your child turns 4 in May you won't get this instalment, but will in July.

    Geez it's all so confusing

2 people have posted the chart previously on this thread that says clearly that Kindergarten children DO NOT get the payment, from YEAR 1 only. So for those who think they will be receiving for their children that are not in year 1 are not entitled to the payment and shouldn't be receiving it according to that fact sheet and was also verified by the customer service officer when I rang. So if you think you are going to get the payment something is wrong somewhere.
Sorry but I received it middle of last year for my son who was in pre primary he's going in to yr 1 this year.

Ladies apparently last year they mucked up quite a few, with children who were only in pre school receiving it, or kids in primary receiving the secondary rate... We were one of those families and I think things will be done a lot more carefully this year. I think if anyone has any doubts they should phone, as much of a
pain as that is, as everyone still is confused and it's hard to know what's right and what's not. Also in online services, you cannot update schooling details until the day they start, or after, so we all need to be using the actual school kids bonus details section, which I think comes under the family assistance or personal details tab. If you do that right then your payments should be right (although I cannot see my payments appearing yet so who know maybe I'm wrong!)

I got it last year for dd who was in 4 year old kinder, but nothing this year yet and she's starting primary school in a few weeks. Would have much preferred it this year as primary school costs are much higher.

It is as simple as filling out the form online (centrelink) and then you know for sure.
