We've got "So that's where I came from". Describes different types of families, different types of conception (including a page or two on IVF and a paragraph or two on using donor gametes), different types of birth, etc. Basically it emphasises that one way isn't the "right" way, but that there are many paths to making a family. I like that it doesn't make the less common paths "special".

It's aimed at a primary school age group, about ages 7-12, but my sister used simpler language plus the pictures to tell her son about his conception and birth whenever I had an IVF appointment of my own. When my nephew was 3 or 4 his favourite page was either the one with the cartoon picture of a woman at embryo transfer or the doctor/scientist picture - possibly because they're the pages he saw most often when my sister was telling him what his aunty had been doing today.

    Hi there,

My situation is a little different however I still went through the roller coaster of "will my child/ren hate me"?

I don't have the choice right now - So I jumped right in !!

There are some horrid "parents" out there and I will remind my child/ren everyday that they were made because I wanted them to be and because they will be loved and cared for !!

    I hope all went well

Default Anyone using Donor Sperm with IVF?

Hi new beginnings, yes you make a very good point there are so many children who are treated terribly by their parents - a loving home is so much more important to a child's well being than genetics! Tell me more of your story???

    Default Bad news

Bad news Only 2 out of my 7 eggs that were injected with donor sperm have fertilised. The embryologist said she will look at them tomorrow as sometimes there are some that are ahead or behind and they can't tell the difference??? She will call me tomorrow to let me know. I can't help thinking it's going to be bad. We never had fert rates this low with my partner's semen and this semen is meant to be better quality! I am so gutted I just can't believe it. I know they say it only takes one good embryo but it just seems so unfair - I thought maybe using donor sperm would give us some frosties as we have never had these, and now it looks like we will be lucky to have one to put back. I usually get a drop off rate of 50% between day 3 and day 5 so even if there are 2 going at day 3 that leaves one only to put back in. Have a terrible feeling that this cycle is going to end badly. Makes me feel stupid for getting my hopes up. Devastated.

As I wrote earlier, we were also shocked by anonymous donor not giving us the results we expected. Even on the cycle that worked the embies were still running a day behind, so we did another day 5 morula transfer.

    Good luck.

Vetttc - I'm not biologically related to my child at all and honestly it doesn't matter cause I love him more than anything in this world. My partner and I (we are both women) used a donor and dp carried. Wishing you all the best with your ivf journey.
