    Default DJ'S arrival...this is long

So my little one is 6mths now but i only joined this site a few weeks ago so i thought i would share my birth story with you all.

It all started when i was around 37 weeks i went to the clinic at the hospital for a checkup and the babys head was floating free and handn't engaged so we arranged to have a u/s done the next week to determine the size of the baby and find out whether i could birth natrually or if i needed a c/s. Well the ultrasound revealed i was having a near 10lbs baby which is pretty big for me but it was taking after its father who was born 12lbs 2ounces. The docter did an internal which revealed i was 1 1/2cm dialated and 1 1/2cm long so i was pretty happy about that knowing the birth wasnt far off een though i wasnt due for another week.

The saturday before i was due (which was wednesday) i started having a few pains so getting all excited we rang everyone to let them know what was going on but during the evening they fizzeld off so i had a hot shower and we went to bed. During the night i had a few pains but only felt them when i got up to go to the loo so they werent anything major.

I got up at about 9.20 went to the loo then jumped back into bed for a cuddle with DP and he asked if i had anymore pains through the night i said yeah but not major ones just as i said that my waters broke just a small trickle but it was definatly my waters so we got up had showers brekky and rang everyone to let them know what had happened and i rang my sis to tell her to drop her kids off at our mums as she was also coming into the birth with us.
So we got all our things together and put them in the car DP went to start the car and it didn't fire of all the times to happen (found out it was a fuel blockage) it had to happen when we were having a baby so i rang my sis who had just dropped the kids off at our mums who luckily lives up the rd from me and she came and got us.

We arrived at the hospital at around 11am and i went up to featal monitering to have a listen to the baby and find out if i was contracting which i wasn't so i sat like this for a few hrs with nothing happening so the midwife suggested i go for a walk which i did but it did not help so i was given a choice get admitted overnight see if anything happens or get induced there and then my DP and i decided there was no point in waiting and not sleeping because of anticipation so we went for the induction.

I got taken to the labour ward and they broke my forewaters which i then found out that it was only my hindwaters that broke and they got the sytocin into me to start me contracting which it did. They turned up the sytocin about every half an hr but they turned it up to much and my uterus got overstimulated and wasn't resting between contractions so i had a morphine shot which took the edge off for a while but not enough they suggested to try the gas but i did not like it one bit so i ended up having an epidural which was good, it allowed me to get some sleep through the night between contractions.

At around 8am i woke up with an urge to push so the midwife did an internal but i was only 9cm so i got told to wait an hr and to push without pushing to relive to urge which is very hard to do. After an hr i was allowed to push which i did for 1 1/2hrs but with not much sucsess the baby was coming down but would not crown so it was decided that that baby needed to be pulled out with forceps but they wouldnt do it in the labour ward they would do it in theatre incase i needed a c/sec.

I was prepped and given a heavier epidural incase of the c/sec and taken to theatre i was told they were only going to try the forceps once if it didnt work c/sec it will be. So the midwife put her hand on my belly to tell me when i was having a contraction and told me to push i pushed like there was no tomarrow and with the help of an episiotamy and the forceps the baby came out and was put up onto me it was a boy 4.440kg or around 9lbs 12ounces. He wa taken to the resus table to get checked over my DP cut the cord and had a cuddle while i got stitched up.

Declan and i were then taken into recovery where i recieved some oxygen and we had our first feed then i was taken to my room during this time i was hemorrahging so they talked about doing a d/c but the blood stooped and i found out i had lost 900ml of blood the next day i passed a 160 gram blood clot and my iron was trying to be built up by using iron tablets but they werent working so i ended up recieving a transfusion.

I think i had a tuff time not as bad as some people granted but i would do it all again in a hartbeat and cannot wait until DP and i start trying again which will be in about 6mths i love my little man to bits and would not trade it for the world.
