$31/hr as a public servant (38 hr week)
$40-50/hr as a freelance sports coach (which varies between 3-15 hrs per week, depending on demand).

I studied for close to 6 years and have done additional qualifications since to enable the current career path I have.

My husband is self-employed, no formal qualifications for his role, gets $50/hr. He is in non-building construction.

    I'm a teacher, if I was working full-time, I'd be on $89,500 a year.

And people who would be good at the job not get in because they aren't great at interviews etc. The whole thing needs to be reviewed. There is a reason that the Public service in general has a far higher rate of psychopaths and sociopaths than the rest of the population, because those types of people do well under that kind of pressure!

I totally agree with this. I am constantly astounded by the lack of ability displayed by some of my colleagues. We go through a fairly lengthy interview process, followed by classroom training, and ongoing training over a 40 week probation.

I often wonder who is actually writing their applications?

I was just saying we need more quality sworn officers in this place.

Actually, they are currently advertising (I think) for a class if she is keen. I remember seeing it on the back of the monthly magazine.
