Default When to have blood test/ultrasounds when first pregnant.

I'm abit confused, when are you meant to have blood tests/ ultrasounds done?
yesterday when I took my SIL to the dr, they did a urine sample to confirm she was pregnant, which came up positive. Then the dr gave her a script for nausea tablets and sent us on our way?

I thought we were meant to get the blood test forms and ultrasound forms? But he didn't give us any?
When I had my lo I got given blood test and ultrasound forms when I had the urine test come up positive?

Can some one let me know please... I'm going to take her back to my gp after xmas and try again... the dr we saw was a rude c**t! And was very uninformative.
    Thanks xx

Depends. My last pregnancy I didn't have bloods done to confirm it, and the only reason I was given a scan referral is because I made a specific appointment to request one. If your sil knows the dates she probably doesn't need a dating scan and the 12 week scan is optional so the dr will probably ask her later if she is having it and if so will give her a referral.

I've only had bloods to confirm this pregnancy when I went in at 5w. my other 2 pregnancies they just took my word.

my GP this time wanted bloods because he's had ladies who thought they were pregnant, got sent to their obs and at 8+ weeks, wasn't pregnant. (never was).

All depends on the doctor I think. I had a blood test done the same day I saw my GP. She didn't bother with a pee test as I had already done a stack at home! She did give me a referral to my obstetrician (as I'm going private). I did end up going back about a week later and asked for a referral for an early scan as I have had a miscarriage previously and I was feeling very nervous. My GP is awesome and didn't hesitate in sending me off for a scan.

I think that if you are unhappy with the care you received from the GP, see another doctor.

I didn't get referred for blood test or ultrasound. I showed the dr a couple of positive hpts, he said no point doing a blood test. I knew the date of my last period, so no point having an ultrasound. I had an obstetrician appt at 6w 5d, she did an ultrasound then.

The GP will normally send a woman for a blood test which includes a full blood count, group & antibodies, rubella immunity status, hep B status and might also include HIV and STI's). An diagnostic ultrasound may also be done around 11 weeks.

Is she going private with an Oby? Mine said he will organize all the bloods at the 7 week appointment ( also get my scan then), I insisted with my GP I wanted a hcg count test just to see my levels.
If not she may have a lazy doctor, when my sister was pregnant she had to ask for everything (inc referral to hospital - by which point the close hospital was "fully booked" and she had to go to one ages away). the only reason she knew to ask was thanks to online forums when she read other mums talking.

I did get a blood test, but my GP said there was no reason for an ultrasound because I knew my dates, which was fair enough.

Thanks everyone for clarifying/clearing things up.

We don't know the exact dates, as she was/is on the depo shot - but has had nausea for the past 4.5/5 ish weeks (so were just guessing that's how far along she is)

Will be going to another dr and requesting bloods and an ultrasound so we can work out where she's at

    Thankyou

Yep very dependent on the Dr.

I went in at 4 weeks, "great, congrats, come back at 8 weeks". I was expecting some sort of test! Nope. No pee, No blood, No nothing.

I went back at 6.5 weeks and asked for a dating scan and bloods. Of which I did at 7.5 - 8 weeks.

Now im doing my 11 week bloods for my 12 week scan.

Most of my friends have also been to the Dr (different ones) and never needed a blood test for confirmation.
