    Default School Kid Bonus Question

Do you receive the bonus for a child in Kindergarten?

Dd2 will be 4 turning 5 next year and is WA if that makes a difference.

I'm just wondering as I was on my centrelink page and there was a section to update your kids school bonus but and I was unsure if I do it for dd2 ?

I am in qld so it may be different but my son starts full time school in January (turns 5 in may) and I have been advised by centrelink that I will receive it, I was told it s the first year of full time schooling.

Wasn't that a mistake though? I'm pretty sure I read in the news at the time that when they started the school kids bonus payment they just went on age not school status. Some people with kids in day care got it because of this.

I could be completely wrong though, just reading this thread made me remember something about how they have to fix the way payments are issued.

ETA: By pre primary do you man prep? If so, sorry. I just thought you meant day care :-)

    Default School Kid Bonus Question

Not a mistake because at the age 5/6 kids have started full time school, and since pre primary is now compulsory as the first year of school people will get the payments.

But I'm wondering about kindy, I have always thought no but just wanted to find out I'm not counting on any payment for dd2 but I guess it would help out

Ahh, I gets it now :-).

As for kindy, pretty sure no. Ds2 will be in kindy next year but we won't get a school payment till 2013 when he starts prep. BUT just to make sure maybe call centrelink.

Hi bunkx, I work with the Department of Human Services in a team that responds to questions about Centrelink payments and services on social media sites like this. Kindergarten may be considered primary school depending on where you live in Australia. The different education levels around Australia for the Schoolkids Bonus are listed here. All the best!
