    Default Child support question.......

I have a question about child support. My dh currently pays cs for his son and now we are expecting our first next year. Will us having a child lower his payments?? We already struggle with the payments he makes plus rent, loans bills etc. Having a child on top I'm worried we will barely get from pay to pay.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated

Yes it has the potential to lower his obligation to the other child. Your child will be classed as his dependent and will therefore increase his self support amount. How much this will effect the amount you pay will vary from person to person. To know for sure you would be best to use the Child support estimators found on both the Centrelink and Child support websites.

You are better off ringing csa as the calculators online don't take a second child, to a second partner into account. But yes it should reduce his payments

Yeah I tried ringing them before but won't give me any information as I'm not the parent. Dh is away a lot with work so getting him to do it can be impossible sometimes.

I had the same problem with my DP. What you do need to do is get an authority form from the human services website and have him fill it out. No offence to DP but he never conveyed the right information to csa. I now have full authority to act on his behalf and change everything around.

In regards to when your new child is born will it lower his commitment of child support to his other child. It sure does. But if you are still having troubles affording it there is also a form that can be filled in with all of your assets financials and liabilities. And a different amount can be set. We have never done this though.

    Good luck

They never are. I receive cs and am grateful for every cent because I don't earn anything as DP earns too much. I know my ex thinks its too much. Me I'm just good ole plain happy to be getting something.

    Anyway all the best

The amount it lowers is didly. If your struggling now it wont get better after the child is born. Seriously its a joke. I had a guy I know who had another child with his gf the payments dropped $2 a week. His ex got pregnant and his payments went up $15 a week. I know its not a high raise but why one child is more expensive than the other I dunno.

Why did his payments go up for the ex having another child?
