For the ladies with GDM can I ask how many units if insulin you are on?

Also do you find exercise helps to bring your level down?

I'm now on 16 units and need to increase it again after two high readings the last few days.

I thought i had a high reading because I had a meat pie when I minding my 5 week old nephew as I found it difficult to cook a healthy meal that night. I had a healthy breakfast this morning and it is high again.

NOTHING helps bring my levels down apart from insulin. I did so much exercise and nothing now brings it down.

I am on 8 units for every meal. If I'm having more carbs than I 'normally' would, I take 14. For example, If I order a burger I take 14 units but can only have half the bun. Carbs are not my friend!

I'm on 26 protophane at night. My fasting levels are now good.

its all trial and error and after 30 weeks it just gets worse unfortunately!

Hope it all works for you and you get those levels down!!!!!!

    oh, she knows!
im so glad hubby is home soon. I don't do well without him when I'm pregnant! I kept thinking all last night 'what if something happens and i have to call an ambulance and they can't get in cause i lock it up like fort knox and they have to smash a window cause I'm upstairs and can't open the door and then ds would be scared'
yeah, i didn't get much sleep!
i put ds down half an hour early and thankfully he is exhausted! ill wake him early and we will be fine. I just don't like taking him to monitoring cause it can be 20 mins or 2 hours. It all just depends!
I have Dora loaded on the iPad so we should be good.. he is a good cuddly bunny in bed!!!

Thanks Km - yes it's this Friday - I can't wait!! How have you been? Have you been admitted yet? Any bleeding? I hope it all goes really smoothly for you too - fx. How far are you now? Have they said when they will deliver all going to plan?

My OB is still shocked that things have changed for me (must have been all that lying flat on my back!!) just so pleased we took all precautions really. My placenta still marginal (only 7mm from OS) hence the c section, but was going down that path anyway so no biggie!

Can't wait to see more babies over the next 2 months!!

Hey km, I'm still on the 10 units that they first put me on. I think my highest reading has been 6.2 a few times which is still under so haven't had to increase as yet.

I get your frustration though, yesterday my fasting reading was 3.8 and after one cup of special k was 6.2?! Which is what I have every morning!

Are they hospital referring you to their GD specialist? They mentioned that if I got to 16 they would make me an appt. at the start the exercise was helping but now I find it doesn't make much of a difference if I do or don't when it comes to readings.

I've been meaning to ask you too what I should expect with the fetal monitoring? I have my first one at 36 weeks.

    Nice control!
    you are doing awesome!!!!!
Don't worry about different readings. Sometimes it just happens. Lovely hormones! My GD dr said as long as you eat the same every meal you are fine.

Monitoring is ok. Im in 2 times a week - monday and friday.
how often do you have to go in?
You just lay on the bed (yep, so hard! hee hee) with 2 monitors on. One on babies heart rate and one watching you.
Baby has to have a steady rate to start on. then they have to have a high rate - you have to drink cold water to get them awake!. they have to then drop back to the lower rate and maintain that.
Your baby just needs to behave and you will be fine. It can take me 20 mins or 40 - if you go over 40 they will make you go for a walk and come back (or go back the next day)

    does that make sense???
