In the last few months there have been two recalls of ham because of listeria as well. The advice about these foods is there for a reason, it's not just hysteria.

unfortuantly it is a bit of hysteria. I have seen people freaking out because they ate a bit of unwashed lettuce:/ asking if they should go to hospital because they might have listeria? people need to make informed choices but some can go very over the top

I was so confused when I read your response. Was thinking "what on earth is London worried about?"

Well yes, the example you've given is over the top behaviour. But I don't think it's over the top to simply avoid foods which are well known to pose risks of listeria for the short period that is pregancy. Or to be concerned about harming your unborn child.

My attitude towards eating appropriately during pregancy is far from casual. I can't imagine the guilt you would endure if you contracted listeria simply because a wheel of Brie was too enticing to ignore.
