    Default What blood test

Finally found a doctor who has available space this week for me to organize a referral for bloods. Problem is that it's a dodgy doctor ( meaning unless you know what you need they don't really bother investigating further) so my question is what type of blood test do I need? OB is doing all immunity level ones this is just for hormone levels. I read some one said something about beta?

If you just want the pregnancy hormones then it's beta hcg.

Blood tests aren't strictly necessary if you have an obvious HPT and if the Ob is going to order them anyway. Getting b-hCG is a good idea though, I'm sure even a dodgy GP will order a bunch of blood tests for you, it's just standard practice. You will need a referral to private Ob (or public hospital) from a GP though so get this while you're there (assuming this is your first antenatal appointment).

I had all of these as well as Vitamin D, TSH with T3 and T4 (all thyroid readings).

    Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Oh and just so you know, if you ob refers your bloods then you have to pay for them as they aren't covered by Medicare when getting a referral from a specialist so get the referral from the GP as it will cost you nothing. I mistakenly thought it was the same thing and I got a referral both from my ob and my GP at the same time. I went to get my bloods done with the referral from the ob and I had to pay over $200 for my bloods

My ob gave me my referral for bloods, said if I signed it beforehand, it would be bulk billed. I had them done this morning, no charge. Unless they are going to post me a bill

Yep same Lil smurfy, I signed my referral beforehand as well but still had a nice bill turn up at my home a couple of weeks later.

Thanks for the tips, his website said he goes to bulk bill places so fx. I'm only going to dodgy doc today as I'm spending too much poas lol and just want to know my levels to put my mind at ease. other bloods will come later. I know hormone levels don't mean much and people with low counts have had successful pregnancies but I'm just curious.

How much was your bill? I'm thinking it will be the nuchal screening blood test that I get charged for
