    Default Teacher Aides in Qld

I'm thinking about becoming a Teacher Aide. I would really enjoy working with kids with special needs.
I'm in qld and I have to get my cert 3 in education support.

I was wondering how hard is it to get a job? Some people have mentioned its hard but my friend got a job before she finished her course.

Also I'm qld what's the pay like and hours?

Or any other tips or advice please

The last time I applied for a teacher aide position I called afterwards to find out why I didn't even get an interview. Turns out they had over 400 applicants. I have over ten years experience and an almost finished Cert 3, apparently I just wasn't good enough (yes I felt kicked in the guts). So if you continue, be prepared for disappointment.

I think a LOT of teacher aide work is the result of volunteering though .. I know MANY aides who got their employment position because they were already volunteering in the school - then got casual work .. then got perm hours.

So my tip - while studying .. try to dedicate a day a week or a day a fortnight .. or SOMETHING in a school - get your name known .. get your foot in the door.

I cant help with wage figures sorry - simply cause I dont know ..

Yes it certainly seems to be one of those jobs that alot of Mums want because of the hours and therefore is hard to find a job. I also want to be a special needs aide/assistant and have been told by numerous regular aides that this will give me a major advantage... ALOT of people don't want to/don't feel called to do special needs work (personally I feel I have been called to work with special needs kids and can't wait to get started once my son starts school next year)
