Default MCNs and bad nappy rash!

I purchased a birth to potty kit of cloth nappies, and started my DD in them once her meconium cleared. However she ended up with the reddest nappy rash for almost 6 weeks until I finally got it settled with bepanthen and disposables. I really love my cloth nappies and want to use them but I tried 2 days worth and the rash started developing again.

I change her so often it's not funny so it's not that she is sitting in a dirty nappy too long. I thought it may be too much laundry liquid (I use earth choice) so I strip washed them, and hung them in the sun for a few days.. I don't know what else to do? I've tried with and without the bamboo flushable liners also with no difference. Should I try soap nuts? Has anyone got any other ideas? Thanks.

Oh and she is EBF and I only use baby wipes when we go out, which i try to buy the 'natural' ones, otherwise I use warm water and soft face washers.

What type of nappies are you using? It could be a reaction to the fabric? I am the opposite, as are most cloth users, nappy rash only occurring in disposables.

That's what I expected to happen! I'm not surgeon all the mcn names/lingo but they are a flat cotton piece that gets folded and sits inside a waterproof cover.

Try washing them in just hot water, no detergent, maybe.

And maybe some sort of fabric liner.

    What brand are they?

If you google "nappy rash in mcns", some links come up where ppl have tried everything and cloth just doesn't suit their baby, unfortunately.

I wash mine in a warm wash, no detergent and Canesten rinse. Might be worth ditching the washing powder like a PP mentioned. Or switching. If I use it (once every couple of weeks) I use Planet Ark.

So do the nappies get clean and smell free without detergent? And do you use a cold or hot wash then? They are called real nappies, apparently they are used in NZ hospitals

Yep, as long as they get sun & fresh air they're all good. I do a 60 degree wash

Incidentally, sun & fresh air on a rashy bum works wonders as well.
