    Default Facebook Privacy Question

I recently created a new fb account after being off for most of the year

Its changed a bit in that time and just wondering if anyone can help me with a privacy setting, ive looked but cant seem to find anything. Ive noticed that when people i dont even know have mutual friends with me and my friends comment on their statuses or pics etc it brings it up on my news feed?

I dont want everyone seeing what i comment on when its not even a mutual friend.Does this make any sense?Pls help.

Just bumping and adding - just had a thought, is it because these people have their statuses and pics set to 'public' so everyone can view them? So when u comment on them it shows to everyone on their news feed also?

You can change your settings so the only people who see anything are friends - they may have theirs set to friends of friends. I make mine completely private.

Does that mean tho if i comment on someones status etc that has it set to friends of friends that all my friends will be able to see it still?

    Default Facebook Privacy Question

I think if they have theirs set to friends of friends people will see your comments cause your posting onto their account not just on your own. So if I post a comment on DHs status or something then all his friends can see it. Same as if he does it to mine all my friends can. The privacy is more so that only my friends can see my statuses or post to them etc. if you want to say something completely privately to a friend you would need to PM them rather than post.

It was just odd as I was looking at some pics that a friend had put up and someone that I didnt know was tagged in a pic so I clicked on them and could see all their stuff even tho they werent a friend of mine. Was very suprised and I certainly dont want friends of friends checking out my stuff.

    Thanks LMEllie and Ladidah!

Yep, it's partly because these people you don't know have their statuses set to public or friends of friends.

However you can also turn off viewing of the comments and likes that your friends make on others pages (which is handy when you have a really active FB friend).

If you look at your friend's page/timeline, hover over where it says "Friends" with a tick next to it (below their cover picture), then click "Settings", then untick "Comments and likes" (and anything else you don't want to see updates on in your news feed).

I have all my posts set to Friends only, but if I comment on or like a public page and a friend of mine hasn't turned off "Comments and likes" then they see my comment/like on their news feed.
