We will definitely be changing our surnames, most likely to my mothers maiden name. My mum raised me yet I have my dads name, doesn't seem right. My partner has no connection to her name. currently has her brothers - fathers name. How weird is that, her brothers are older than her and from a previous marriage, she has also had her sisters - fathers name. Poor kid had no connection so she is looking forward to having our own little family with all the same names.

My DP will be sending her forms off in the next few weeks to change her surname to mine. We want our birth certificate to reflect the same surnames for all of us.

I will be changing my last name to DPs before our child is born, the process is a little confusing though. Do you have to change every document and pay fees for each of them? Eg birth cert, licence, passport ect? If we could marry we would have by now, it would be so much easier

It depends how you go about changing your name. We registered our relationship and I just took that to qld transport and Medicare etc and they changed it for nothing.
If you apply to BDM, you have to pay something like $180 to change your name but I'm not sure if individual agencies will charge you to change it.

I thought I would have to pay at least at qld transport but they just put our relationship certificate down as a marriage certificate

Oh and I never changed my name on my birth certificate because if I need it to prove something in my maiden name, I still have it. I've also been slack and haven't changed my passport yet...

I changed my surname to DPs through BDM, and haven't had to pay any extra to change them through anything else.

First thing to do is change your driver's licence, then you don't need to carry your certificate everywhere with you!

It will be your legal name so I would assume so.
Maybe give BDM a call to confirm?
