Default Help - need a paediatrician who specialises in Asthma!

I have a strong family history of chronic Asthma. DS has had consistent Bronchiolitis with a terrible cough since he was 4months. He is now 13months!!

Our GP has said he believes he probably will be Asthmatic however advised that it can't be diagnosed prior to 2 or 3yrs old.

His cough is constant 24/7 and has been for the past week now. I have had enough, I want a specialist opinion. I'm planning to visit GP tomorrow to get a referral.

I want to go armed with the name of a specialist in case they just try to refer me to a general paediatrician.

I am having trouble finding anything online that can give me a list of Paediatricians who specialise in Asthma.

Can any of you please advise me?

I am desperately wanting someone who lives and breathes Asthma to assess my poor baby boy.

instead of a paed specialising in asthma, go for a referral for a respiratory specialist.
My DD got referral to paed, of which I had to fight for resp specialist referral as he believed there was no problem.
Glad we saw the resp as she got it under control

We also saw a respiratory specialist with regards to DDs asthma. Well worth it!

Thanks guys I have an app at 12:30 today, I will ask for referral to a respiratory specialist rather than a Paediatrician.

As for treatment the GP has been prescribing Prednisolone when the cough becomes wheezy. It has an instant an huge effect but I feel like we never really have it under control. No one has offered Ventolin or any sort of inhaler, not sure if that is due to age....? Poor little guy has been consistently having difficulty breathing for most of his 13months. Really he has been a noisy congested breather since birth but for a long time I was told this is typical for newborns....well 13months later we have no improvement, in fact things have deteriorated.....

Not really concerned too much with a diagnosis, more interested in seeing someone who can help us with a treatment plan that gives my boy relief.

Have you tried to rule out allergies? My DS2 is asthmatic but his symptoms become much much worse when he drinks cows milk. On goats milk he is fine but not cows or soy.

Thanks MM I will ask about Ventolin and spacer while I'm there.

PM I have been giving him Soy instead of Cows milk, but will try Goats milk to see of that makes a difference. Thanks for the suggestion. He is breastfed still but has Milk on cereal and as a drink if not with me.

Thanks for all the advice. We were prescribed prednisolone again and a referral faxed to children's hospital respiratory specialist outpatients clinic. Hopefully we'll get some good support there once we get in.
