Default Are the ATO flexibile with payment plans for tax bills?

I owe $2000 in tax by march but there is no way I'm going to be able to pay it all as I'm on maternity leave, I might be able to pay $1000 if I'm lucky. I've heard they offer payment plans, but until I go back to work (in June) I will be scraping by as it is because by then ill be only getting the centrelink money Will they accept a small amount each week if I promise to pay it in full when I return to work? I'm scared they are going to blacklist me or something

Give them a call and explain this! Dh had a massive tax bill and we weren't able to pay it by the due date. He called and they gave him a choice of 12 or 18 months and then sorted out a weekly payment which was direct debited each week. Don't stress! Just call them. It was easier than I thought!!

Yeah give them a call. They like you to pay it out within 12 months I think. They're pretty good if you're proactive with them.

Yep I think they are pretty fair. We had a bit to pay back and asked to be able to pay it back weekly but they gave us a plan of $50 a month. Didn't even notice it missing at all.

Yes they are absolutely! I had a very very large tax bill (self employed) and wrote off my car just before it was due. I was a little out of pocket even with insurance and I didn't work for a few days because of an injury, anyway long story short I was going to be short on the tax bill and they gave me a payment plan for the balance.

They will ask you how much you can pay by the due date and how much you want to pay per month afterwards- they ask you to give them these figures and then tell you whether it can be approved. There is a small interest charge that can be refunded (up to their discretion) if you pay on time.

I had a debt with them a few years ago. I just paid a small amount each fortnight from my PPS to pay it back. My mum also had a debt and they sent her fortnightly bill payment slips in the one go so she always knew where she was up to with repayments.
