    Default Curious about gender selection

Now when i was frequenting BH a few years back.. it was a hostile place so im hoping its not the same this time! Before you all jump to conclusions this is not a fore or against debate I am simply asking for information

I am a mother of 5 vibrant boys and just found out im a expecting another healthy boy in april, although this time when we found out another little man was on his way, i wasnt as disappointed as i had been in previous pregnancies, my husband was devastated which has never happened before. We love our boys to death and wouldnt change any of them for the world, we would love to eventually one day have a baby girl to complete our family. We have in the past tried the old wives tales on how to conceive a girl to no avail. Our last 2 pregnancies this one included were not planned but happy accidents

So im asking, i seen a few years back that the aust government was looking in to changing the gender selection laws through IVF. I have been researching all day and cant find a thing past 2010 on what laws were lifted, passed, or stayed the same. Does anyone have any information on what's what and if the laws will change in future?

Although we are not looking to TTC anytime soon after our newest addition is welcomed home we would like to know our options in the future.
    xx

    Default Curious about gender selection

I highly doubt gender selection will be available in the foreseeable future... But having said that I haven't researched so could be wrong.

Chickpea is correct. Gender selection is only available if the parents are in a position to pass on a genetic condition that only affects one or the other.

It is available in other countries though, and from what I have heard cost wise it can actually work out fairly similar. ICSI and PGD are not cheap in Australia.

This is the general gist of it. and there are only a few places that do do it for genetic reasons as well, not all IVF clinics do.

Afaik overseas would be your only option.

This is right, at the moment in australia you can only do gender selection for medical reasons, and even then it needs to go through ethics committee approval (this is new). I believe some people travel overseas for gender selection for other reasons.

Thanks that sheds a bit of light on the topic I was hoping it was extenuating circumstance as well, such as over 4 or 5 children of the same sex... Ahh wishful thinking on my part
