    Default Needing Advice on clinics

Hi Girls just need some advice I done my first ivf a few months back and got ohss (I do not have pcos) the cycle was cancelled. I have recentley had another cycle the clinic assurred me it would not happen again and said they would change a few things, however they ohss me again and cancelled the cycle. Its now very hard to trust anything they do. Would you girls move to a new clinic or stay with them as they are a very reputable clinic.

    Default Needing Advice on clinics

I was with a very reputable clinic and dr and it was the best thing I ever did!we got pg. as soon as we moved. I think you should go with your gut instinct. I felt terrible leaving the other dr like I was cheating on him and what if I wanted to go back etc. as soon as I started with the new clinic on day 1 I knew it was the right choice. I hope you are feeling ok given the ohss. I'm not sure where you live but pm me if you would like my clinic and drs details I'm in sydney.

    Hi Fannella

Did they change your protocol between cycles? I got mild OHSS after my first full stim (which was a short cycle) but I haven't ever had any probs with the long (down reg) cycles, hence I now only do long cycles (which is a pain as it takes FOREVER!) but better be healthy and not in pain (well not physically anyway!). Hope you're feeling better soon. I'd say if they change things around then maybe it's just bad luck?? But if you're not happy then change, like Lara says, gut instinct may give you the answer you're after. Good luck with the decision making

Fannella... I haven't had OHSS, however I too have changed fertility clinics, even though I was at the time very happy with the care, nuturing and professionalism of my first clinic NGF. In hindsight, I think it is absolutely crazy when one first starts this journey that we just go to whichever fertility clinic our local GP refers us to, when 12 months later, I now know that my GP has very little knowledge of IVF. At the time I was happy, but since then, I've been to consultations at two different clinics to work out where I need to be.

It all really depends what ones issue is. For us the issue is DH's MFI and really we need a specialist like Dr Golovsky (through IVFA) or Dr Lok (through Fertility First). As MFI is the issue we also need donor sperm as a backup, and though Dr G and Dr L also work at other clinics, we need a clinic that does anonymous donor sperm, as most clinics only do "known" donor sperm. I wish someone could have told me that 12 months ago, as NGF, though great, doesn't have either a MFI specialist nor anonymous donor sperm.

    Default Needing Advice on clinics

Hi Fanella, it so totally sucks to have your cycle cancelled. As I write this, I was supposed to have a little embie inside for a 5dt, but I overstimulated and they cancelled the transfer, but at least I got to have the retrieval.

What I wanted to say is that whilst this has happened, I'm still staying with my clinic because of their lab. I didn't realize how important labs were until we were told that we had MIF and needed ICSI.

I noticed we aren't in the same state, but initially, we signed up with Genea because the surgeon who did my laps also does ivf through them, and I wanted him for my ER. After retrieval day, the lab called to say we had a 90% fertilization, which was a great result.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, we went with this clinic for one reason, and ended up having a stronger opinion of them because of their expertise in the steps of ivf that we don't get to see. Ultimately, the choice is yours to determine which clinic best suits your needs because lord knows its such an expensive endeavour. Best of luck.

I agree go with your gut instant.

I got OHSS with my clinic and it was absolutely awful. I retrieved 36 eggs. I was diagnosed as having PCO. Anyway my cycle was cancelled and I had an FET 3 months later and got pregnant with boy number 1. Only one egg made it to day 5!

Now with baby number two I was very scared about getting OHSS again, more like scarred it was so awful. Anyway they promised me they will lower my dose as I didn't need to have it so high. This time I got a lower amount of eggs (18) and managed to have a fresh transfer. And thankfully I got pregnant again with boy number 2.

Thats so awful and traumatic for you having to go through OHSS back to back, I would be checking my file to make sure they really did lower the dose the 2nd time and if your not comfortable.... go with another clinic. In my case I'm glad I stuck with mine.

This is my first time here....yes a forum virgin. Hehe. My hubby and I have been trying to fall pregnant the natural way for over 2years..no luck. I have been recommended to a clinic here in Perth by the Gyno at the hospital. I have severe endometriosis, 41.5y old. No kids. 1TOP in the 1991 when I was young and foolish. I'd would like to get some info from local ladies in Perth on IVF clinics and fertility specialists. Are there any recommendations. We have our first appt end of Feb with Dr Doreen Yeap at FSWA. What are your thoughts?

    Hi Nina

Firstly thankyou to all the girls that replied to my post. Nina, I think FSWA is a wise choice for you Im new to this too,but with the research that I have personally done FSWA seem to be good at getting older woman pregnant, where the likes of concept, pivet and others seem to have better results with younger woman. This is my opinion only it just appears to me that they seem to find problems alot quicker than other clinics and thats good for you when time is not on your side.

Nina71.... I don't know anything about Perth clinics, as I'm in Sydney, however there is a thread here for "over 40s" so you should come and join us on that one too.

We are going through Genea, only due to my doctor referring us there. Otherwise I woudnt have had a clue where to go! Very happy with everyone there I must say can't fault them one bit.
