Default Dad & Partner Paid Parental Leave Scheme

    Hi all,

Our daughter is due January 11th. We were told that my partner would be eligible for a 2 week paid parental leave scheme by the government.

Just wondering if anyone knows more about this?

The girl from family tax office didn't know to much about it other than people can apply from October this year and that dads and partners will be eligible to take 2 weeks off of work to bond with baby.

I might make an appointment with centrelink to ask about it

Yes it applies to babies born after 1 January 2013.

If you Google you should get some info.

Had a bit of a read online, so far dh meets all eligibility but I think if bub comes early like even new years eve dh will no longer be entitled unless what your friends were told is correct sweetpeamummy as it all states babies born or adopted AFTER January 1st 2013 and I can not find any special clauses or anything to say even if your baby was due after Jan 1st but came premature you would still be entitled!

Have a look on the centrelink website, has info on there 2 weeks paid at the minimum award i think and it looks like dad needs to be on unpaid leave (ie-not in paid annual leave) from what I read!

I think it's nice that partners are getting a little recognition as being important in the bonding process too and the payment takes a little pressure off them financially but the BEST thing is DH's work were real a-holes when he tried to inform them that once bub is here he would be taking a week or two off to bond but since this scheme has come into light they have realised that they are entitled to take some time off as long as it is unpaid leave, it is in their agreement!

99% sure this isn't the case unfortunately. Same as for people who could only get PPL after 1 Jan 2011 (was it 2011??).

I am waiting on a call back from them now to check but I honestly think it will be a case of regardless of when bub is due or what not if they are born prior to Jan 1st like even at 11:59 on new years eve lol they won't be eligible which is a shame but it's probably how all the parents to be due this month feel too!

Oh well will be good to know either way
