    Default Help with hip dysplasia!!

My 6 wk old has been fitted with a pavlik harness and has severe hip dysplasia! She seemed fine the first day and night but everything went downhill yesterday! It took me 5 hours to get her to bed last night and she woke pretty much every half hour all night! Today is even worse! I haven't been able to put her down all day and she has probably slept a total of one hour in 10 min bits!! Just wondering if anyone else who has been through this can offer any advice or reassurance!! I'm feeling really helpless today!! I know there are worse things but its just breaking my heart that she's uncomfortable and I can't do anything about it!!

Sorry u're feeling so bad. Sounds really tough - I struggle to get mine to sleep sometimes and I can't imagine how much worse it would be with a harness. Lots of luck!!

    Default Help with hip dysplasia!!

Oh I feel for you and bubby. It can take a few days for them to adjust and usually when they get past the first few days they will sail through the rest of their harness wearing days.

There is a wonderful support network on Facebook that another hubber got me onto.

Search 'Developmental Dysplasia Of The Hip' on Facebook and you should find the group.

There is a heap of parents who are just starting their hip journey with their little ones or there's some who have come out the other side but stuck around to offer support.

My DD2 didn't end up needing a brace but I did get a lot of support from them during all of her scans.

Lots of lovely people with plenty of advice.

I wish you and your little one all the best xx

My daughter had severe DDH as well. It gets better trust me, babies adjust quickly & often it's the parents who struggle (I was a basket case!) with the whole process! My daughter then was fitted with a full body plaster or hip spica at 9 weeks as her hips were dislocated & not formed (frank breech). 3 ops later & 2 years we are seeing big imorovements. Good luck with your hip journey there is a great support site on Facebook "Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip in Babies, Kids & Adults". Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Good luck

Thanks chikii! Dd was also frank breech but hips are classified as 2c on both sides so not quite dislocated!! I'm so glad things are improving for you. Thanks for the reassurance! Will try and stay positive!!

Have you tried putting rolled up towels under her legs for support?

    Default Help with hip dysplasia!!

I'm so disappointed in the medical treatment we've had so far! I've been given no info on hip dysplasia or information on her particular diagnosis and prognosis! I had to google it myself to make sense of it and discover myself (from her referral from paed to orthotist) that is was severe! Probably going to transfer to another paed! He just seems to pussy foot around the situation and isn't giving me the answers i want! I want all the details even if its a bit worrying or upsetting!

Wow that isn't good at all! Our surgeon was amazing and all the other specialists that followed where really helpful. My dd actually had an op, cast and then brace when she was 3 years old all through childrens hospital.
Some pain relief like pain stop really helped my dd settle in those first few days but im not sure what drs would recommend for your baby.
Hope she is more settled soon!

    Default Help with hip dysplasia!!

I gave her a dose of Panadol last night because she just wouldn't settle again! Within half hour she was asleep and last night was much better than the night before! She did three hour gaps between feeds! Hopefully we are over the worst of it!! Thanks for the tips and reassurance!! I'm seeing my ob today for my 6 weeks check! She's brilliant so going to have a chat today about how unhappy I am! She might refer me to someone else that I'm more happy with!!
