A hand out is a hand out. So it was ok for you to receive what YOU needed, but you begrudge others for doing so.

ETA: What is often forgotten when reading or implementing policy changes is how it is actually going to work (or not work).
So are you against it for all parents? Or are you just upset now that it wont grandfather the before 06 parents?

    I agree

Never thought of it like that, good point,.

Because they pay tax! Of course!!
Meh not everyone is uneducated in this matter you shouldn't assume what people know and dont know on this subject.

A friend of mine recently wanted to start looking for work she is a single Mum. As she has not worked in a long time she wanted some help and to register with a job agency. She went into the Salvation Army agency and was told that as her youngest is still under 6 (the child is 5) that they can not help her with a job prospects as she was not an 'urgent' case.

I don't understand why they are not helping her now before she has to rely on a Newstart Allowance. So while they want people to be on a Newstart Allowance for a minimum period of time they won't help people prevent having to rely on an amount that you can not afford to job hunt.
They need to step up their programs, if she wanted training they shouldn't have turned her down. They need to have more programs like job training, getting people trained in resumes and stuff like that. Also I think it should start way before their time is up giving them plenty of time to get education etc.

lol there are a lot of ways to help, those were suggestions of a few ways to help. I guess a better solution is throw more money their way and just shut up and leave them alone would that help them more?

Its a defense often used in these threads if you ever received any payment ever then you can not think its bad to be on aid for eternity because you yourself used the system, even if as intended.

I also wanted to point out that my partner was severely depressed after he lost his job, he'd never been unemployed before and quite often worked 2 jobs.

It is very soul destroying losing your job, being unemployed and constantly getting knocked back.

The bottom line is there is always going to be some that abuse the system. But why should the genuine people, trying to get ahead, improve their life etc, have to live on such a pittance.

I don't know the solution but it definitely doesn't sit right with me that some people suffer because others abuse the system.

Losing your job is devastating. I had not really thought about it overly much until I was recently made redundant. At the moment there are so many people applying for limited positions it is hard getting rejection after rejection. Most times you don't get an acknowledgement that your information has been received.
