Default 4 year old toilet training and ASD

My little 4 year old will stand and do a wee after lot of bribing but will still run outside and wet his pants even though he knows how to stand and wee in the toilet .

The second issue is that he will not entertain the idea of sitting on the toilet for a poo. He hasn't had one for days . I refuse to go back to nappies as I don't want to confuse him .

He also has autism but does understand what I say and his vocab is around a 2.5 year old.

I'm happy to take my ( our) time but I cannot be with him all day constantly as I have a baby and a 22 month old also and no help I can ask of.

Anyway , any tips? Thanks xx

I wish I knew how to help you, but I have no expirence with this sort of thing.

My only idea is... have you thought about modern cloth nappies? (Assuming that the nappies you referred to are disposable, of course!) You can get them made larger- I've seen people make them for a seven year old. So if he wets them, he feels wet, but it might save a mess on the floor?

Thankyou , we do have these but he won't wear them. He is doing much better today and had no wee accidents but Is upset and worried about poo. I'm going to keep him in big boy underwear and take the pressure off him.

    Thanks for you advise xxx

Bumpy bots do these great training pants with a plastic lining so trousers dont get wet. plus they hold a full wee!

    Highly Recommend it.

Would he be motivated by getting to choose a reward from a box? Like if you wrapped a few little things that you know he'll really love in there and then show him the box with the tiny wrapped goodies and tell him if he does number twos in the toilet he'll get to pick a surprise from the box?

Glad to read that he's been accident free today, that's a step in the right direction!
