We have a GSD and a Dobe both are from registered breeders, around 2k each.

Default Re: Be honest! How much did you pay for your dog?

Ok im going to get flamed for this but backyard breeders are my preferred source of dogs. If you can view the parents you have a very good idea of what your getting. No puppy mills as with pet shops. Reasonable price. And I would go to a breeder but I have no desire for a pure bred dog. Crossbred dogs mostly appear to benefit from 'hybrid vigour' and tend to not suffer from the health issues some purebred dogs develop.

To answer the OP ive paid from 0-500

Last week we paid $3500 for our Alaskan Klee Kai. Normally $4700 but she's 5 months so cost less than a pup. We then had to send her across the country to Perth which was another $345. She still needs desexing!

DF got our Husky from a pure bred breeder before we met, 5 years ago now. Next dog we get will be from the pound as I am a big believer in re homing rather than buying from a breeder. Our girl was $1000 and that was 5 years ago.

From what I remember of Dogs here...
1984-1999 Golden Retriever x Kelpie -Free to our good home.
1990-1998 Australian Silky Terrier- vet decided we couldn't come home with an empty cage after dropping a cat off for stitches
1999-2001 Barrel on Legs (I have no idea what i was)- Found wandering Australia's wonderland were my sister decided she was taking it home
2000-2003- Fox Terrier I think- Came with the Brother in law- Unsure of cost if any
2000-2010- Kelpie X German Shepard- My sister movedhome & bought the dog, moved out and couldn't take dog.. I think she paid $400 for it
2006-2009- Am Staff X Brit Staff - $200 from pound
2013-????- German Shepard -Free Unregistered from Breeder who is mum's God Daughter.

So of 6 Dogs we have had only 2 have been paid for.. we are getting another just before bubs is due (god help me) with still no cost. I don'tknow how we manage it but we have had so many animals in this house and hardly pay for any of them.

Default Be honest! How much did you pay for your dog?

My Maltese x ****szu was from my aunty and uncle breeding her two dogs (breed once then desexed) and I only paid $50 due to being family. Our border collie was from backyard breeder, we went checked parents over and spent probably an hour there with owners and dogs, both parents were their pets. We paid $50.

    Wow really? Lucky you

We paid $2500 for our british bulldog with papers and a registered breeder. Funny thing is he can't be a show dog due to his colouring but yet he came in at a hefty price! He was so gorgeous though how could we say no?
