    Your right, it is quite restrictive :/ I just had another look. Definitely will be buying just a box or tub of tracks and scenery/signs/trains. DD is so in love with trains she will be very pleased

    Last year we bought the Aldi 100 piece train set, which is fab. Then I got about 60 second hand genuine Thomas parts on ebay. Plus there is a company called BigJigs (I think) that make wooden tracks compatible with the wooden thomas AND the Aldi tracks. They have some really good stuff like bridges & tunnels etc and very reasonably priced compared to the Thomas stuff. My only complaint on the non-thomas stuff is that battery-powered engines don't grip the tracks
