Default Ovarian reserve and the contraceptive pill

Okay, I am going to show how ignorant I am by asking this question but there are so many people on this site who know a lot about conception/fertility etc that it would be silly not to ask...

Does The Pill prevent ovulation? If so, does taking The Pill help to preserve your ovarian reserve until a woman is ready to try to conceive?

Hi there! It's my understanding that while yes the pill prevents ovulation, it does not preserve fertility, the eggs we are born with still dwindle and age over our life span. Hope this helps!

I thought the pill prevented implantation, not ovulation!?

That link suggests that you are both correct, depending on which kind of pill you're taking.

Yeah that's right. The combined ocp makes an unfavorable environment (doesn't allow the lining of the uterus to thicken the way it would with a normal cycle) plus prevents ovulation. The progesterone only pill (mini pill) acts more on the lining, and I think the cervical mucous, rather than preventing ovulation. i think that's why there are higher pregnancy chances with the mini pill as you can still be ovulating normally.
