    Default Annoying MIL

My MIL came over for breakfast this morning. At 8:30am I usually start our nap time routine for DD. She gets up at 6am and has her first nap between 8:45am - 9am. So when I told MIL that I have to put the baby to sleep, she couldn't believe it. She kept on saying, that she is a big girl now (DD is 8.5months) and that she doesn't need a morning nap any more.

I felt like a child myself who is doing something wrong.

I don't understand where older people get their information from, seriously.

I just smile and say it works for her/him and keeps her/him smiling.
MIL shut up after that. He was always a smiley boy so she had no come back.

They got very different advice to what we get. My mum had us on solid at 4 weeks! Can you imagine someone doing that now!

Oh and the funniest bit of advice I gave received came from my grandmother. When DD was eight weeks old, my grandmother asked how she was sleeping. I said she woke up a couple times a night and she said 'oh maybe she's hungry?', and I said 'yes...I feed her and she goes back to sleep!' I've figured that out

Haha, parents and grand parents can think we're idiots I think.

My dad used to criticize me for sitting next to DD when I put her cot and would shush and pat her to sleep. He's like 'you don't need to do that, just leave her at least she is resting or she will fall asleep eventually.' Uuuum no! You don't know my DD like I do - she's not me when I was a baby - it won't work!

I think it's because they are close to us, they feel like they can offer such advice left right ad centre, but they don't realise how annoying and unproductive it is. If I want advice, I will ask - thanks!

I got told by someone that to get my DD to have naps, I should face her pram into the sun so she can't open her eyes, then she will fall asleep.

I feel all your pain! My mil is the queen of annoyingly bad advice.
-I should be putting hunny on DS dummy
-I should stop breastfeeding at 6 months
-his diet should include ice cream and cake because kids like those things (he was 8 months at the time)
And I'm sure much more that I can't remember right now

My MIL loves to give advice but since I kept ignoring it she seems to have quietened down thank goodness.

    My faves were:

-I needed to start giving DS water when he was not even 2 weeks old (even though he was breast fed and breast milk is mostly water)
-why hadn't I started solids yet? (DS was not even 3 months old at the time)
-I should be giving bottles of formula to DS to get him used to it (even though he was breast fed and we were having no problems with breast feeding)

    Cos sunburn induces sleep too!

    Default Annoying MIL

My mil is forever thinking my parenting style is poop. I'm pretty strict when it comes to bed times. They think that my DS who is 3 shouldn't have a nap during the day... He will have one till he stops and when he dosnt have one his a grumpy bum. I think it's just mils lol dosnt matter if your the male of female mils always annoy you when it comes to kids lol
