My mum gave me a pile of secondhand breastfeeding friendly dresses (she buys op shop dresses to resell) recently. I put one on and my partner was weird about it. He said the dress was fine, but it is the same type of style my mother (60) wears and he found it offputting.

So I understand why you are a bit weirded about by the dress thing.

Some 68 year olds have beautiful taste My own mother has seriously fabulous clothes and a stunning sense of style and she's 73.

But yes, I'd be annoyed too. My MIL did this.....not with clothes though but with furniture, decorator items etc, it used to drive me crazy but then I changed my style and she musn't be a fan because she doesn't do it anymore

That's like saying because I bought something you aren't allowed to buy it too.

I agree it is annoying when it happens but it's certainly not ridiculous for someone to buy something they like just because someone else owns it.

I'm not saying more, I don't want to start another argumentative thread.

I would probably be flattered, but on the same hand I can understand your annoyance especially when as you said you don't often wear/buy dresses.

Next time if it happens just tell your MIL you can't remember where you bought it from or someone gifted it to you and don't know where they got it from.

Keep wearing it, don't let a copy cat MIL put you off it.

It's okay, sorry I didn't want to start an argument, just wondering your reasoning. Its sound reasoning, it's probably just that my opinion of my MIL is probably clouding my opinion on this topic

My ILs buy EVERYTHING the same as us!! But try and outdo us. So MIL would have brought the same dress but made sure it was designer

    I'd still wear it!!
