    Default That was a crap "workout"! - Week 5, Day 2 - Blog 48

Well this morning I woke up suffering from The World's Worst Cramps™. I know that sounds like a cop out but I'm talking pain so bad that at the beginning of my workout, I thought I was going to pass out from it.

I usually spend my crampy time of the month in a Mersyndol-induced haze. I take one at a time during the day at work (unless it's so bad I have to take two and just deal with being drowsy) and then two at a time once I'm home. By the time I woke up this morning, last night's Mersyndol had worn off and I was cursing myself for not taking some before I went to bed.

I considered skipping my workout but I didn't want to start bad habits and I figured a bad workout was better than no workout! So I got up, took a Mersyndol and prayed it would kick in quickly.

Like I said, at the beginning of the Exhilarate workout I tried keeping up as I normally would and was nearly sobbing from the pain and seriously concerned that I'd pass out so I modified majorly. I literally walked my way through it! It wasn't until Swing (about 40 minutes in) that I could even marginally bounce, let alone jump. To put it in perspective, I burned 400 calories when normally I'd burn 600 calories if not more doing Exhilarate. That being said, if I'd stayed in bed for another hour, I only would've burnt 75 calories so I'm way ahead!

All in all, as crap as it was, I'm glad I did it and I didn't push myself, heck I didn't even really work up much of a sweat! Oh well, I'll go hard on Rush this evening. I think that's partially why I'm upset with myself, I could've done Rush this morning and gone hard on Exhilarate tonight but I am really liking doing the long workout in the morning when it's not as hot and it gives me more time to do other stuff in the evening. Silly Siân. Oh well, what's done is done.

You need to know that you have changed your life and missing one workout is not going to change that. You are Already a New person with new habits.

I know I'm a new person with new habits, that's probably why I didn't skip the workout lol! The same reason why I was late last Friday because skipping my workout wasn't an option!

I started the workout with it in mind that if it became too much, I would stop. Once I started modifying the movements big time I knew I could get through it because the Mersyndol would eventually kick in and the pain would ease off which it eventually did!

Today is definitely going to be a two Mersyndol day, though. I just got to work and all I can think about is taking another one because it still hurts. Bah!

Ouch hun. I am sorry that I came across so harsh, I worry about you. That's all. It is ok to tone it down (not stop altogether) when your sick or in pain, is all I am trying to say.

Nooooooo, that wasn't harsh at all! I really appreciate your support and concern.

Today's just going to be a bad, bad, crampy day! I've taken more Mersyndol and I'm still in pain. :'(

Well done for sticking to your goal but that said, please please please think about taking it easier on yourself. If you keep ploughing ahead when your body is suffering you will eventually hit the wall. I have been there, it is not pretty, it is not healthy and it takes ages to recover from. Like has been said, you are making permanent lifestyle changes so missing a workout, for a very good reason, in the grand scheme of things is not a big problem.

You guys are right and I will take care of myself, I promise. If I'm still super crampy tonight, I will go easy on Rush. I really did the bare minimum in this morning's workout and I really would have stopped if I couldn't cope with the pain. That being said, one of the girls at work suggested that I could've taken today as a rest day and worked out on Saturday instead when I'm not cramping. I hadn't thought of that!

To be honest, though, I literally didn't even sweat from this morning's workout, that's how easy I took it. It allowed me to go through the motions, work on my form and not skip my workout which is one of the highlights of my day.

Hugs!! I used to suffer really bad pains but since I had DS (still breastfeeding and have had Aunt Flo since he was two months - ripped off!) I dont get any cramping at all. Just a mild ache for the first few hours. But I know how awful it is and it would be a great excuse to skip a workout and you'd be forgiven for it. But well done for not letting it get in your way. Hope you are getting some rest now!!

Oh hun, do take care of yourself. If you feel like you are going to pass out, pushing on may not be the best thing.

Remember to balance your new Zumba self with the self that enjoys doing other things and knows when you need to rest and recover and nurture yourself a little bit.
