    Default Greens and Hamas

    http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/new...-1226521544009

You won't often hear me comment in support of the Labor party, but I have to say that I can't agree more with Danby. I do not understand why the Greens could support such a group. But it is no surprise. They generally don't make much sense.

If only our Foreign Minister could tow the party line and back up the Prime Minister in her support for Israel.

I don't think there should be any support for Israel. Or Hamas. They are both as bad as each other.

While all states have a right to defend themselves, including Palestine, they must follow proportionality. Unfortunately, no state ever does that.

What action has Israel taken that has been disproportionate? They are targeting military targets. They are not firing rockets indiscriminately.

If rockets were being fired into your home town, would you like the military to take out those rocket systems and the people responsible for firing them?

Check out the human rights reports. Both Israel and Hamas are guilty of targeting civilians.
I believe that Palestinian pubescent boy who was shot dead while playing soccer was not a military target.
I don't see how criticising Israel's actions equals supporting Hamas.

Care to provide a link to that story?

Criticising Israel for defending themselves against rocket attacks DOES equal supporting Hamas. Do you expect them not to protect their innocent population, and just let the rockets come?

Oh you are a crack up Father.

Criticising Israel does not mean I or nasalharionfire support Hamas. What a ridiculous and inflammatory statement.

Like most global issues, this is complicated and cannot be looked at as an isolated incident. There is quite a lot at play here and unfortunately both sides think the solution is to bomb the cr*p out of each other.

Oh, I won't be bothering to provide any links to anything as you have a habit if rubbishing any opinion that doesn't match your own and rubbish links that are provided for an alternative view point. This might also be why so few people have responded to your thread despite it being a very interesting topic.

Both sides DO NOT think the solution is to bomb each other. Israel would be more than happy to live in peace. It just so happens that the Palestinians refuse to allow Israel to exist. That is why they have been launching hundreds of rockets into Israel all year. Israel has shown great restraint in waiting so long before retaliating with a targeted attack on a leader.

I do not see how you can view them as the same.

I'd have to completely disagree with you there. Israel has made abundantly clear that they want Palestine destroyed. Killing civilians, specifically children has been referred to as 'mowing the lawn'.

I do not see how you can view them as the same.
Based upon the history of your posts on this forum, this above statement is a common occurrence when someone doesn't match your world view.

As I said, this cannot be looked at as a singular event. There is a long and complicated history with pretty much zero possibility of a positive outcome. Israel is not an innocent party. Neither is Hamas. It is absolutely possible to criticise both sides without giving either any support. I can criticise the US without supporting Al Qaeda. And I can criticise Israel without supporting Hamas.
