I'm not sure about the whole "if you don't like it don't watch it" argument. Where does beastiality then fit? Or child pornography? I don't like either of those one bit and society agrees and bans them.

I think torture porn walks a very thin line and most main****** film makers know how to stay on the right side of the line.

I don't think there's anything new in any of this and the fact Saw and Hostel have finished and haven't been replaced shows it's not that immensely popular as a subculture.

And I don't think human centipede is torture porn. Definitely sick and probably depraved, but not torture porn.

By the way LMF you must have incredibly interesting internal debates if sex without love disgusts you but you enjoy watching these movies. Or do you want to provoke something?
What the hell? Are you saying that saw and hostel are anything like child p0rn and beastiality? There's a difference. Child p0rn is using children and taking photos/videos of them in inappropriate situations. Same with beastiality except with animals. Horror movies are just that Movies.. with actors...

You could find a problem with every single movie out there if you wish... I agree with Cleigh... if you don't like it... don't watch it. If kids are watching it that's their parents problem. I mean you can't ban everything that a child shouldn't see.

    Default Torture Porn?

The saw movies would have to be some of the best MOVIES iv seen!! They really get you thinking and the twists in them are great. The gore like said before is apart of it.
Hostel also gets you thinking o what other humans can be like and are like. That stuff really happens. It's sad but true. It kinda makes you more aware iykwim???
I also agree that it's silly comparing Gorey movies with porn. I'm sure there are some sickos that get a thrill out of it but I'm also sure it's not the majority of people who watch that type.
But I think it all should just be left alone and people who don't like it just don't watch

    Default Torture Porn?

There are worse movies than Saw and Hostel. Anyone seen I Spit on Your Grave? The Collector, I think it's called? Where the guy booby traps the entire house
I have seen Hostel and I really liked it. I really want to see the second. I watched the first Saw movie but I found it super boring and predictable.
I do agree, if you don't like it, just don't watch it. I personally don't like sci fi and don't think it should be banned. I personally cant watch war movies because...well they upset me but i still dont thinkthey need to be banned. Child porn and beastiality are illegal
I do, however, think there should be more warnings on movies. The movies with torture scenes need to be very heavily marked. The same with rape scenes

Not good at saying my point of view so hope it makes sense lol

I'd like to see some studies on what these movies actually do to people.

I agree with Sonja, not banned but they shouldn't be available to teenagers. I think the gore in these movies is excessive, personally. It is lacking imagination. if you want a movie that makes you think, watch Funny Games (the original version).

No, sorry, terrible comparison. Saw and Hostel star actors, paid and willing to act in the film with full understanding and consent. Child porn stars underage victims being sexually abused on camera without consent, and is completely illegal. Bestiality- how can an animal give informed consent? And I'm pretty sure that's illegal too.

I think Cleigh's point came across just fine, if you don't like a genre, don't watch it. Hence why I don't watch things like Saw or Hostel. I have no desire to see such violence, fear and pain inflicted on anyone. I don't understand the desire to see it either. Is the label torture porn appropriate? Kinda. It is graphic, it s gratuitous, it does focus on long, drawn out torture scenes. It's not going to stop anyone who really wants to watch it and it may warn the unsuspecting. I don't necessarily think that less people viewing explicit violence and torture scenes is a bad thing, but again, I doubt it will stop people viewing it and slapping a controversial label on it may actually have the opposite effect.

I don't enjoy watching people being tortured so I wont sit through a movie like that. I have walked out on movie nights at friends houses when these type of movies have been shown. I think it shows a real lack of empathy for other human beings to actually enjoy watching that sort of thing.

I also agree with pp that I think there should be more warnings on movies.I really, really, really don't like seeing sexual violence, but it is sometimes hard to tell whether it will be in a movie. For some reason a lot of movie makes think it is essential to have a gratuitous rape scene in many movies – I find it a bit sick.

    Default Torture Porn?

I am hopeless when it comes to blood & gore. I can't watch it, it makes me sick to my stomach & will give me nightmares if its graphic enough. That said though, I think the Saw movies are brilliant, even if I spend half of any one of them hiding behind a pillow.

I always thought the term 'torture porn' referred more to the over the top violence than any sexual arousal gotten from watching them. In this day of illegal downloading & overseas Internet shopping, I don't know if banning or restricting the movies will really make any difference.
