Thanks guys. Looks like I'll be a stay at home Mum for a lot longer. Vacation care isn't really an option for our family. Thanks for all the answers so far :-)

I don't really see any other options other than
    1- using vacation care
2- splitting holidays as best you can with your partner
    3- using parents/friends to babysit
4- being a job that aligns with school holidays.

I myself am a teacher, so I don't have that problem, as I'm available on school holidays.

I have school mums, vacation care and a friend who all help out. If i use a school mum, i will have her son over for the day or night plus i pay her too but generally thats if i work afternoons. For days, i will be using vacation care and he also goes away to a friends for up to a week at a time so i do a lot of overtime while he is away so i can spend more time with him.

These school holidays coming up, he will be vacation care for a week, my mum is down for a week so she is going to watch him, then as soon as mum goes, he is going away for a week the same day she leaves as i have to work that week straight. Then back to vacation care for 2wks and home and sleepovers between myself and a school mum for the last week.

I really dislike school holidays while i do shift work.
