Default Changing the spelling of you child's name.

I have been tossing up wether or not to change the spelling of my dd's name.

    Here's why.
Dd's name is "Layla" Dh and his family are from Finland and dd will be/is bilingual.

Trouble is everyone on my side of the family call dd "Lay-la" but on DH's side they call her "Lee-la"
When dd was born we had no name for her and it was someone on DH's side that told us about the name.
We went with "Lay-la" as we were filling out her birth certificate as we thought it would just be easier for her in school ect. But now I'm regretting that decision, we call her Lay-la when speaking English but Lee-la when speaking Finnish, it's kinda just stuck with us after DH's family had trouble pronouncing "Lay-la"
    DD responds to both names.
I have seen many Layla's with the spelling Leila.

DD will be 2 in February.
Is it worth changing it now?
Or will it just get confusing for everyone?

It would be going from "Layla" to "Leila"

My DD is actually Leila pronounced Lay-la and I wish I spelt it Layla lol. I would leave it, spelling doesn't matter too much. The way you have it spelt and pronounced now is correct, could you just tell DH's family to pronounce it the way you are?

Lol, were are never happy are we

I could tell DH's family that, but "Leila" has really grown on me.
Dh and I have been talking about changing it for a year, but we always get held back over the confusion of it all.

I think if its something you really want to do then do it! Much better to do it now while she is still so young

I would definitely say do it before she learns how to spell her name! I love the look of Leila over Layla.

Do you want it pronounced Lay-la? Or Lee-la? I say Lee-la when I see Leila, so if you want it pronounced Layla I would leave it and just correct people who call her Lee-la. I think if you change it to Leila and want her called Lay-la, you will be correcting more people. Im confused now :

My parents changed my name when I was 3 months old (switched the order of first and middle names) and so it shows as a change on my birth cert. Whenever I fill out
any official paperwork that asks "known by any other name", I have to put in my first name as it was on my birth cert, then my maiden name as they changed it, and then my married name. It's a bit of a pain especially as I have travelled a lot, applied for passports, residency, visas, etc etc. just be sure the change is worth the paperwork!

I also think the spelling Leila is lee-lah when you say it. I had a friend through school who had that spelling and that's how people always guessed the pronunciation.
sorry I know that's no help, but food for thought perhaps- if you want Layla pronounced lay-la I'd stick with the spelling you have.

    I'd pronounce Leila as lay-lah.

I think changing a bubs name after their birth certificate is a bit funny... But it's your decision not mine..

Just to add to the confusion, I once worked with a girl named Leila, pronounced "Lie-la" (her mum wasn't the sharpest tool and I honestly think she got the i and e the wrong way around haha).
